What is Die Casting?
Die casting is a high-efficiency manufacturing process where molten metal is injected into a steel mold under high pressure to form metal parts.
It is well-suited for producing complex shapes with good surface consistency and repeatability, especially in medium to high-volume production.
Die casting provides near-net-shape parts, reducing machining time while maintaining production efficiency.Critical dimensions and functional surfaces can be further improved through CNC machining and secondary processes.
In practice, die casting is often combined with CNC machining to achieve both efficiency and precision.

DIE CASTING PROCESS

Mold Design

Die Casting
High-pressure injection for consistent and stable production.

Trimming
High-precision machining for critical dimensions.

CNC Machining
Remove excess material and ensure smooth edges.

Inspection
Strict quality control to ensure 100% qualified parts.
When to Choose Die Casting Over CNC
Die casting is preferred over CNC machining when production volumes are high and part geometries are complex, making machining alone inefficient or costly.
It is particularly suitable for near-net-shape manufacturing, where the main structure is formed through casting, and critical features are finished through CNC machining.
For low-volume production, tight tolerances, or frequently changing designs, CNC machining remain
- Production volumes are medium to high
Tooling costs can be amortized, resulting in a significantly lower cost per part compared to CNC machining. - Part geometries are complex
Thin walls, internal cavities, and intricate shapes can be formed in a single casting process, reducing the need for extensive machining. - Near-net-shape manufacturing is beneficial
The primary structure is formed through casting, minimizing material waste and machining time, while critical features can be finished by CNC. - Consistency across large batches is required
Die casting ensures stable and repeatable part quality once the tooling is established. - Part integration is desired
Multiple components can often be combined into a single casting, reducing assembly steps and overall production cost.
